The Capitol Theatre has announced the lineup of special guests joining Pink Talking Fish as The Centennial Band for the venue’s 100 Year Centennial Celebration. The event is scheduled for Saturday, September 19, at the historic Port Chester venue.
The performance features an all-star lineup from the improvisational music scene, including Grammy Award-winning pedal steel guitar virtuoso Robert Randolph. Joining the ensemble are moe. founding members Al Schnier and Vinnie Amico, alongside Goose drummer Cotter Ellis.
Singer and songwriter Andy Frasco will also perform, alongside Greg Ormont and Alex Petropulos of Pigeons Playing Ping Pong. The group includes Doom Flamingo vocalist Kanika Moore, Cool Cool Cool vocalist Sammi Garrett, and Dogs In A Pile keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan.
The Gotham Horns, a three-piece horn section led by composer and arranger Matt Wayne, completes the special guest lineup. The world’s first all-drag Grateful Dead tribute band, BERTHA: Grateful Drag, will open the evening.
The Centennial Band was created exclusively for this milestone to honor the musicians and history of the venue. The evening will feature collaborative performances of iconic songs to mark the theater’s legacy.
Designed by architect Thomas Lamb in 1926, the 2,000-capacity theater is listed in The National Register of Historic Places. The venue sits 30 miles from New York City and is accessible via I-95 and the Port Chester Metro-North train station.
Historically known as “the original rock palace,” the theater has hosted performers including Traffic, the Grateful Dead, Black Sabbath, Chuck Berry, David Bowie, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, and The Rolling Stones. Jerry Garcia famously cited it as one of his two favorite venues in the country.
The venue underwent a major renovation in 2012 under the guidance of music entrepreneur Peter Shapiro. Since its revival, the theater has continued to host major artists, including Bob Dylan and Phil Lesh.
