The Bannerman Castle Trust has released its calendar of public events and tours for July 2026. Regular island tours run from May through October, departing from the Beacon Waterfront Dock at 2 Red Flynn Drive, directly across from the Metro-North Train Station. The Estuary Steward tour boat accommodates 44 passengers for both guided and self-guided excursions.
Visitors taking the island tours can view the historic Bannerman Castle ruins and gardens. The excursions also include access to the original Bannerman residence, which now serves as an on-island museum. The trust coordinates a summer schedule that incorporates walking tours, theater events, movie nights, concerts, and dinner events.
The public programming for the month begins on Friday, July 3, with a movie night featuring the 1972 musical “1776” directed by Peter H. Hunt. The film stars William Daniels, Howard DaSilva, Ken Howard, and Blythe Danner. The screening aligns with the celebration of America’s 250th anniversary over the Independence Day weekend.
A second movie night is scheduled for Friday, July 17, featuring the 1951 Alfred Hitchcock psychological drama “Strangers on a Train.” The film features memorable performances by stars Farley Granger and Robert Walker. Both film events take place outdoors on the historic island grounds.
Live music returns to the island on Sunday, July 19, for the Third Sunday Music Concert Series. The trust will present The Costello’s, a musical group performing maverick pop originals and familiar songs. The performance is free for any visitors who book the 11:00 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. island tours.
On Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, the venue will host “Epic Broadway on Bannerman Island” in coordination with Broadway in Beacon. The event is a Broadway revue featuring professional actors who have performed on Broadway, singing theatrical songs against the backdrop of the historic Bannerman residence. The evening is sponsored by The Festival, a three-day outdoor music festival.
Off-island programming continues throughout July at the Bannerman Island Gallery, located at 150 Main Street in Beacon. The main gallery space features an ongoing history exhibition with changing artwork, photographs, and artifacts from the Bannerman Family Collection, highlighting development efforts since 1994. The main show also displays works by contemporary artists focusing on the island and the broader Hudson River Valley.
The gallery’s west wall features an ongoing exhibition of Hudson Valley paintings and photo-mixed media by artists Virginia Donovan and Mary Ann Glass. Proceeds from all art sales at the gallery directly support preservation projects on the island. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., as well as weekdays by chance or appointment.
