The Capitol Theatre will celebrate 100 years as a landmark of American live music with a centennial concert on Sept. 19, featuring performances by Pink Talking Fish and BERTHA: Grateful Drag.
Known to fans as “The Cap,” the venue opened its doors in 1926 and has since hosted generations of rock, jam, and psychedelic artists. The anniversary event is designed to honor that history through a curated series of musical tributes.
Headlining the evening is the ensemble Pink Talking Fish, performing under the moniker “The Centennial Band.” The group, which typically blends the catalogs of Pink Floyd, Talking Heads, and Phish, will perform two sets featuring guest appearances and musical nods to the various artists who have played the stage over the last century.
Joining the lineup is BERTHA: Grateful Drag, an all-drag Grateful Dead tribute act. The group is known for high-voltage interpretations of Dead classics paired with theatrical costumes and performances, a tribute to the venue’s long-standing association with the Grateful Dead and the broader jam band community.
“The Capitol Theatre has been more than a venue; it’s been a home for a community built around the transformative power of live music,” event organizers said in a statement.
The theater underwent a major renovation and reopening in 2012, solidifying its status as a premier destination on the East Coast touring circuit. It is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Tickets for the 100th-anniversary celebration went on sale in early March. Doors for the Saturday night performance are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m.
