The KuBe Art Center opened a new retrospective exhibition on Saturday, Sept. 12, featuring the work of artist and former professor Li Hu. The exhibition traces his artistic development from his early life in Shanghai through his move to the United States and his career as a fine arts educator.
Born in Shanghai in 1950, Li Hu graduated from the Fine Arts College of Shanghai University before emigrating in 1990. He later earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of South Dakota and served as a full professor at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh.
The collection highlights his personal experiences with global dialogue and cultural transformation. Featured works include Mass Migration (2012–2016), a monumental triptych oil painting focusing on human displacement, alongside pieces documenting his establishment of the Li Hu Art-Student Scholarship.
The exhibition also features Silent Meditation, an installation composed of 12 life-size fragmented human figures seated on the floor. The arrangement explores themes of personal reflection and human nature.
The opening programming included a press walkthrough led by curators Professor Gan Yu and Ethan Cohen alongside KuBe Art Center Director Donna Mikkelsen, followed by a public afternoon reception. The exhibition was made possible through support from the Cohen Art Foundation, fiscal sponsor Bonfireworks Foundation, and friends and family of the artist.
