The annual Bannerman Island Farm-to-Table Dinner will take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, on Bannerman Island in Beacon. Head Chef Scout Metzler will lead a team of chefs from across the Hudson Valley, New York City, and Clifton Park to prepare a five-course meal.
Attendees will take a 20-minute ferry ride on the RV Estuary Steward from the Beacon docks at the Metro-North train station to reach the island. Upon arrival, guests will see recent renovations completed by the Bannerman Castle Trust, including the restored historic Grotto.
The event runs three and a half to four hours with two available seating times. The first ferry departure leaves the Beacon docks at 3:00 p.m. for a 4:00 p.m. dinner seating, while the second ferry departs at 4:30 p.m. for a 6:00 p.m. seating.
Preparing a meal on the island requires managing logistical challenges, as the location operates without electricity or running water. Staff must haul all food, portable generators, and ice up 70 stone steps from the ferry landing to set up the dining area.
The menu includes five distinct courses featuring soup, salad, an entree, cheese, and dessert. Each chef involved in the event designs their own course during a five-day planning period leading up to the dinner.
The Bannerman Island Farm-to-Table event was created in 2010 by former Master Chef Noah Sheetz as a fundraiser following a collapse at the castle’s Main Tower. Metzler, who originally started as a dishwasher and trained under Sheetz, took over leading the annual event in 2025.
