The Peace Education Center of the Hudson Valley will open the second peace museum in the United States this summer. Led by founder and executive director The Rev. Dr. Leonisa Ardizzone, the Peace Museum and Learning Lab is scheduled to debut in Kingston, New York. The facility will feature interactive exhibits designed for visitors of all ages to explore human rights, communication, conflict, and environmental issues.
The new space intends to focus on intercultural understanding, communication skills, and the interconnectedness of all life. To address these topics, the organization plans to offer structured community programming. These initiatives include teacher education programs, youth apprenticeships, community workshops, after-school programs, vacation camps, and school field trips.
The museum represents the newest project for the Peace Education Center of the Hudson Valley, which originally formed in 2021. The organization began running programs with various partners throughout Ulster County in 2023 before securing the permanent location. The group operates under a mission to empower individuals and organizations to create just, peaceful, and ecologically-minded communities through education.
The grand opening weekend is scheduled to take place from July 10 through July 12. The facility is located at 730 Broadway in Kingston and will maintain operational hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Prior to the public opening, the organization will host a gala on July 8 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to provide a preview of the space. The ticketed gathering will feature live music alongside mocktails, appetizers, and desserts prepared by local artisans.
