The “brilliant and blistering” comedy rock extravaganza “Cindy of Arc” is headed to the Catskills for its regional premiere at the Bridge Street Theatre this May.
The production, a 2023 Richard Rodgers Award finalist, will feature two performances: Saturday, May 16, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 17, at 2 p.m.
Written by and starring Cynthia Kaplan, the show arrives in Catskill following a successful residency at New York City’s Laurie Beechman Theatre. Directed by Emmy-winning writer and Tony-nominated producer Dani Davis, “Cindy of Arc” is described as a “hyper-intelligent” exploration of the history of lies told by men in religion, politics, sex, and songwriting.
“I’d hoped to retire my horse, Buttons, after this last election, but for some reason the world keeps demanding political, feminist, subversive, comedic work,” Kaplan said.
The 65-minute show features a four-person cast, including Kaplan, Dan Barman, Zachary Larson, and Rob Taube. Beyond its satirical edge, the production has a history of activism, having raised more than $12,000 for reproductive rights organizations during its various runs.
Kaplan, an acclaimed essayist and musician, has toured the show across the country, including stops at Seattle’s Intiman Theatre and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. Davis, known for producing Broadway hits like “Billy Elliot” and “Little Women,” leads the creative team.
Tickets for the Bridge Street Theatre engagement are $30 for general admission and $25 for students. The theater is located at 44 West Bridge St.
