Hudson River Music Festival Highlights Family, Kids Programming on Father’s Day Weekend
Families, children, and music lovers are invited to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with an unforgettable day of fun and inspiration at the Hudson River Music Festival on Saturday, June 14 at Croton Point Park. Admission is free for children 12 & under.
Highlights of the Family-Friendly Offerings
The Rock and Roll Playhouse
The Rock and Roll Playhouse is the largest national concert series for families where kids can “move, play and sing while listening to works from the classic-rock canon” (New York Times). The Rock and Roll Playhouse was founded in 2014 at its flagship venue, Brooklyn Bowl, by industry pioneer Peter Shapiro, looking to create opportunities for families to experience live music together in historic music venues. The Rock and Roll Playhouse has since performed to hundreds of thousands of children, playing music from the most iconic musicians in history to inspire the next generation of children. Its core audience of kids under 10 explore their creativity dancing to live music from world class musicians and through interactive activities.The Playhouse will perform two sets during the festival: Pete Seeger for Kids (1pm – 2pm) and Bob Dylan for Kids (3pm – 4pm). Rooted in the enduring legacy of folk music as a vehicle for activism, these performances—highlighted by the inaugural Pete Seeger set—echo the festival’s mission to inspire political consciousness, celebrate community, and promote environmental awareness
Arm-of-the-Sea Puppet Show
Prepare to be captivated by this large-scale environmental puppet performance. Combining visual storytelling, live music, and handmade puppets, this performance explores humanity’s connection to the natural world and inspires environmental stewardship in a way that children and adults will cherish. Don’t miss their newest show, which features imaginative narratives about the Hudson River’s iconic fish species and the challenges they face, brought to life with dazzling visuals and compelling characters.
Riverkeeper Fish Migration Celebration and Boat Flotilla
Dress up as a fish or bring your own fish themed puppets to Riverkeeper’s Fish Migration Celebration. Families will have the opportunity to learn about the annual fish migration while enjoying hands-on activities that highlight the river’s vital role in our ecosystem. The event will feature a whimsical flotilla of artist-designed boats, inspired by the fish themselves, as they trace their path upriver, turning the water into a moving masterpiece. The flotilla will feature a 64 foot tugboat named Shoofly Pie, two 30 foot boats provided by Riverkeeper, and one 130 foot fireboat. Leading the way will be a breathtaking, larger-than-life sturgeon-themed boat designed by Greg Corbino, a stunning tribute to one of the river’s most magnificent creatures. Come experience this beautiful and meaningful celebration of the river and its wildlife! Presented in collaboration with Heather Henson’s Green Feather Foundation.
Working Waterfront
Get hands-on with boat-building workshops, sailing, and canoeing opportunities. Children and parents alike will find joy in connecting with nature and building new skills together.
Circle of Song
Experience 11 continuous folk music performances throughout the day in a cozy riverside tent. This acoustic gathering pays homage to the traditions of the Clearwater Festival, uniting generations through music and storytelling.
