Storm King Art Center, a 500-acre outdoor museum in the Hudson Valley, is currently underway with its 2026 season, featuring new temporary outdoor exhibitions by artists Anicka Yi, Saif Azzuz, and Liz Glynn.
The new commissions are scheduled to open to the public on Sunday, May 17, following a VIP preview on May 16. The museum, which reopened for the season on April 1, is hosting a full schedule of public programs including concerts, moonlit walks, and artist talks.
“The 2026 season is exemplary of what Storm King does best: championing artists as they expand the boundaries of their practice, commissioning works that unite sculpture and nature, and creating dialogue between the great mid-century artists in our collection and contemporary artists of today,” said Nora Lawrence, Storm King’s executive director.
Exhibition Details
- Anicka Yi: Message from the Mud: Yi’s first large-scale outdoor project features acrylic columns filled with organic matter and microorganisms. Utilizing soil science technology, the work creates a “microbiological portrait” of the landscape that evolves with exposure to sunlight and time.
- Outlooks: Saif Azzuz: Titled “weych-pues / tàkhòne (where the rivers meet),” this 2026 commission takes the form of a giant sturgeon made of steel, aluminum, and salvaged car parts. The work explores Indigenous survivance and the interdependence of nature and culture.
- Liz Glynn: Open House: This installation features concrete casts of Gilded Age furniture, originally based on the historic William C. Whitney mansion. At Storm King, the work is placed in a natural landscape for the first time, functioning as an architectural ruin that invites public interaction.
Upcoming Programs
The season includes several featured exhibition programs, such as a conversation with Anicka Yi on June 27 and a prehistoric culinary experience titled “Before Skeletons, Before Teeth.” A knowledge-sharing session with Saif Azzuz and Indigenous leaders is scheduled for Sept. 26.
Other recurring events include moonlit walking tours on May 1, July 31, and Oct. 23, and a hands-on workshop series for children and families starting May 10. The museum’s 2026 gala will be held Oct. 7 at the Rainbow Room in New York, honoring artist Alicja Kwade.
Storm King is located in New York’s Hudson Valley and is dedicated to stewarding a landscape of hills, meadows, and forests. Admission is $25 for adults, with discounts for seniors, students, and youth. Orange County students receive free admission with proof of residency. For more information, visit stormking.org.
