Local growers and restaurants highlight Hudson Valley harvest season

Orange County, New York, has entered its peak growing season, bringing farm-to-table dining and farm markets to the forefront of the Hudson Valley. The county features expansive rolling farmland, rich Black Dirt fields, orchards, restaurants, distilleries, and craft breweries. Visitors can pick their own fruits, vegetables, and flowers, as well as attend farm dinners, shop at farmstands, and sample locally produced craft beverages.

Amanda Dana, Director of Orange County Tourism and Film, noted that the region’s Black Dirt farmland yields some of the most flavorful produce in the area. She highlighted that the current season offers an ideal time to visit local farms, markets, and restaurants, whether picking apples in Warwick, trying farm-distilled cocktails in Goshen, or attending a harvest dinner.

Working farms in the region double as community gathering spots. Blooming Hill Farm in Monroe grows more than 200 varieties of organic fruits and vegetables and serves a seasonal menu at its farmstand and café. All One One All Farm in Goshen functions as a nonprofit regenerative farm, eatery, and distillery, serving farm-inspired cocktails made with artisanal liqueurs. Pennings Farm Market in Warwick spans 100 acres and offers produce, an on-site cidery, a pub, a beer garden, and an ice cream stand.

The local dining scene focuses heavily on seasonal ingredients sourced directly from nearby growers. Borland Inn and Restaurant in Montgomery features an award-winning farm-to-table restaurant set inside a historic 1780s structure. In downtown Middletown, Oak & Reed presents an evolving menu of comfort food and contemporary dishes made with locally sourced, sustainable ingredients.

Craft beverage producers throughout the county also integrate harvest ingredients into their menus. Orange County Distillery at Brown Barn Farms in New Hampton operates on a fifth-generation farm, growing its own ingredients to produce small-batch spirits alongside food trucks and outdoor fire pits. In Pine Bush, Christopher Jacobs Winery at Pennings Vineyard offers tastings and outdoor seating overlooking its vineyard.
