Catskill Art Space will collaborate with the Elizabeth Murray Estate, Trisha Brown Dance Company, and Works and Process to present a residency focused on Present Tense. The project takes place Oct. 6 through Oct. 10 at 48 Main Street in Livingston Manor, culminating in a free public sharing on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 4:00 p.m.

The residency allows audiences to observe dancers from the Trisha Brown Dance Company rehearse and reconstruct the 2003 piece. Public rehearsals will take place on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.

Present Tense features choreography by Trisha Brown set to selections from John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for Prepared Piano, with lighting designed by Jennifer Tipton. The production includes visual designs and original costume concepts created by Elizabeth Murray, with costumes later reimagined by Elizabeth Cannon.

An exhibition of Elizabeth Murray’s works on paper will run alongside the residency in the second-floor River Gallery from Oct. 3 through Dec. 27, 2026. The display features studies Murray created for the original stage backdrop.

Following the schedule at Catskill Art Space, the project will move to Hudson Hall in Hudson, where the collection of Murray’s works on paper will be shown from Feb. 2 through March 14, 2027. Underwriting support for the program is provided by Works and Process, Margie and Charlie Van Dercook, and Alessandra Gouldner and Boyd Johnson.
