Safe Harbors of the Hudson has announced the installation of a new mural by artist Sophy Tuttle on the exterior wall of the Cornerstone Residence at 111 Broadway in downtown Newburgh. The artwork faces the adjacent Safe Harbors Green and marks the ten-year anniversary of the half-acre urban park, which was created from a vacant lot in 2016.
The 60-foot-high by 25-foot-wide mural takes design inspiration from the native flora and fauna found within the park space. Featured species include Joe-Pye-weed, milkweed, eastern cottonwood, blue flag iris, the carpenter bee, tiger swallowtail butterfly, and the Isabella tiger moth.
Installation of the artwork is being conducted by Beyond Walls, a Massachusetts-based public art nonprofit. The completed wall painting replaces a previous mural by artist Dasic Fernández and will be finished ahead of Safe Harbors’ annual gala on September 17, which honors park designer Bryan Quinn.

Safe Harbors Green functions as a gathering space hosting local programming such as the Newburgh Farmers’ Market, outdoor movie screenings, and annual events. The park features over 50 species of native plants and pollinators alongside environmental management systems, including rainwater gardens, bioswales, and solar lighting.
Concurrently, Safe Harbors is de-installing a long-running outdoor exhibition featuring 44 large-format portraits of Newburgh residents taken by photographer Dmitri Kasterine. Originally mounted on the property in 2012, the prints are being removed due to physical deterioration over time, with organizers working alongside local officials to return the prints to the subjects and their families.
