The Marmentini Living Museum will open its first phase on the Newburgh waterfront on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Located at 150 Front Street, the outdoor space will debut Palale-eye, a monumental marble artwork created by artist Rhea Marmentini.
The venue will operate as an evolving studio environment rather than a static sculpture park. Visitors can observe finished works alongside in-progress sculptures as raw stone is carved directly on site overlooking the Hudson River.
More than 24 tons of Vermont marble have been transported to the site to support the creation of the monumental pieces. The installation serves as the initial component of the planned Hudson River Sculpture Walk, which will expand with additional artworks in future phases.
Marmentini’s sculptures, drawings, and sketches explore themes rooted in river ecology, geological history, and mythology. Her work incorporates imagined beings, known as Paleos and Palaleos, designed to connect the Newburgh site with the broader Hudson Valley region.
In conjunction with the project, Marmentini created One Out of Seventy, a single painting made of 70 individually signed canvases available through Bank Art Gallery at 94 Broadway. The opening event on September 26 runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., featuring a reception with drinks and paella at 3 p.m.
