Kaatsbaan Cultural Park will present Calpulli Danza Mexicana: Native Mexico: Dances of the First Peoples on Saturday, August 29, at 1 p.m. as part of its 2026 Annual Festival. The event takes place at 120 Broadway in Tivoli.
The interactive performance pays tribute to pre-Hispanic civilizations, including the Mexika, Purépecha, Zapotec, Totonaca, Maya, Olmec, and Tolteca peoples. The program features eight dances accompanied by live music, depicting traditional garments, stories, and rituals centered on community and the earth.
Founded in 2003 and based in New York City, Calpulli Danza Mexicana produces original dance theater productions, offers educational programming, and provides free or donation-based arts instruction in community settings. The company explores various cultural themes through Mexican folkloric and contemporary dance.
The festival marks the return of Kaatsbaan’s outdoor Mountain Stage, set on 153 acres near the Hudson River. Individual performance tickets are priced at $25 for adults and $15 for students, with multi-performance combo packages and all-day pass discounts also available.
Located two hours north of New York City, Kaatsbaan Cultural Park operates as a non-profit incubator and presentation space for artists across dance, theater, music, film, and visual arts. The facility includes dance studios, guest accommodations, an indoor theater, and outdoor performance spaces.
