Kim Gordon to perform in New Windsor on June 20 at Storm King Arts Center. The performance is part of an extensive domestic tour that continues through the summer and autumn months with stops in Chicago, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Seattle.
The upcoming show date follows Gordon’s recent network television debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. During the broadcast, she performed the title track from her third solo studio album, Play Me, which is currently available through Matador Records. For the television performance, the musician wore a Jalen Brunson jersey to note the recent National Basketball Association championship secured by the New York Knicks.
The current touring schedule follows a series of performances in the New York City region, including a sold-out engagement at Night Club 101. Due to high ticket demand, production organizers have added a second concert date at the Warsaw venue in Brooklyn, scheduled for September 16. The new album has recently been included on mid-year prominent music lists by outlets including Paste Magazine, Rolling Stone, SPIN Magazine, and The Guardian.
The studio album features the lead track Not Today, which was released alongside a short film directed by filmmakers and Rodarte fashion label founders Kate and Laura Mulleavy. The production also featured work by director of photography Christopher Blauvelt. The title track includes an accompanying music video directed by Barney Clay, following the prior release of her single Dirty Tech, which featured a video directed by Moni Haworth.
The thematic elements of the new songs address topics involving contemporary culture, technological developments, corporate environments, and modern life through a perspective of dark humor. The musical arrangements utilize physical instrumentation and an investigative approach to songwriting rather than definitive statements. Biographical documentation for the entire record has been prepared by writer Jenn Pelly for public review.
