Acclaimed children’s musician Laurie Berkner will return to the Paramount Hudson Valley Theater on May 3 for a pair of performances, including a “Greatest Hits” solo concert and a specialized sensory-friendly set.
The 3 p.m. main event will feature fan favorites from Berkner’s 25-year career, including “We Are The Dinosaurs,” “Victor Vito,” and “The Goldfish (Let’s Go Swimming).” Known for an interactive style that encourages children to dance with stuffed animals on their heads, Berkner will also perform rarities seldom heard during her full-band tours.
“I can’t wait to swim like fish, jump like Harry the Chipmunk, and march like dinosaurs with the kids and families there again,” Berkner said in a statement.
Earlier in the day, at 11 a.m., Berkner will present a “relaxed performance” designed for individuals with autism, learning differences, or sensory sensitivities. This session will feature adjusted light and sound levels and a “shush-free” environment where families are encouraged to move, talk, and use communication devices freely. Professional dancer Michelle Esch will join Berkner on stage for the morning set to incorporate movement-based storytelling.
Often called the “Queen of Kids’ Music,” Berkner is a former preschool teacher whose songwriting is rooted in early childhood education. She has surpassed 1.7 billion total streams and was the first recording artist to appear in music videos on Nick Jr. and Noggin.
The Peekskill appearance comes ahead of the June 26 release of her 18th album, “Walking With The Penguins.”
Tickets for both the 11 a.m. sensory-friendly performance and the 3 p.m. solo concert are available through the Paramount Hudson Valley box office. The theater is located at 1008 Brown St. in Peekskill.
