Kaatsbaan Cultural Park will host a preview of “Unchainable Voices,” a new multidisciplinary work by choreographer Vernard J. Gilmore, on April 17.
The performance, presented by Gilmore’s company La Verdad, is scheduled for 7 p.m. at 120 Broadway. Admission is free to the public, though the organization requires advanced reservations.
Rooted in dance and movement, “Unchainable Voices” explores the historical impact and resilience of Black women. According to the production’s organizers, the work serves as a celebration of those who have acted as “stewards of civilization” despite facing systemic marginalization.
Gilmore, a Chicago native and former member of Ailey II, has a career spanning several decades. He has performed for the White House Dance Series during both the Obama and Biden administrations and recently worked on the Disney film “The Little Mermaid.”
The event includes a post-performance question-and-answer session with Gilmore, followed by a reception in the museum’s Lobby Gallery.
In addition to the Friday evening preview, Kaatsbaan will hold an open rehearsal on April 15 at 4:30 p.m. The rehearsal is open to the public with an RSVP.
The program is part of Kaatsbaan’s ongoing 2026 spring season, which focuses on providing a residency space for artists to develop and present new works in the Hudson Valley.
