Safe Harbors of the Hudson, in association with puppeteer Dov Manley, will present the fourth installment of the “Uncanny Valley Puppet Slam” on Saturday, March 28, at 7 p.m. at the Lobby at the Ritz.
Tickets are now on sale for the adults-only puppetry cabaret, which has drawn sold-out crowds since its debut in November 2024. The one-night-only event will take place at 107 Broadway in Newburgh. Admission is $20.
Hosted by veteran puppeteer Liz Joyce, founder and artistic director of Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre, the evening will feature a mix of returning audience favorites and new performers from the Hudson Valley, New York City and beyond.
The lineup includes William PK Carter, Carole D’Agostino, Opal Elwell, Scott Hitz, Chris Palmieri, Cabot Parsons and Brad Shur. Co-producer Dov Manley is the founder and artistic director of Up In Arms, a Newburgh-based puppet company.
Billed as the first puppet slam in Newburgh, “Uncanny Valley” draws inspiration from vaudeville, cabaret and experimental theater. Puppet slams typically feature short-form acts curated for adult audiences and can range from comedic to dark and thought-provoking.
Performers bring a wide range of experience to the stage. D’Agostino’s work has appeared at the Kennedy Center and on Broadway, while Hitz’s credits include “Avenue Q” and television projects for Comedy Central and Disney Channel. Carter, a Central Valley-based artist, recently completed residencies with Puppet Showplace Theater and Safe Harbors’ Ann Street Gallery, and received a workshop grant from the Jim Henson Foundation.
Safe Harbors’ performing arts and community programming is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts. “Uncanny Valley Puppet Slam” also receives support from a Puppet Slam Network grant.
