Mount Peter celebrated its 90th anniversary Jan. 31 with a daylong event honoring generations of families, employees, and visitors who have shaped the Hudson Valley ski area since its founding in 1936.
The celebration brought together longtime Mount Peter families, local officials, staff members past and present, and guests from across the region. Festivities included live entertainment, roaming performers, a torchlight parade, remarks from community leaders, a champagne toast, and a fireworks display.
“This celebration was about much more than an anniversary — it was about family, gratitude, and legacy,” said Amy Sampson-Cutler, executive manager and vice president of Mount Peter. “For 90 years, Mount Peter has been a place where families come together … and where memories are passed down generation after generation.”

During the evening program, Sampson-Cutler and Rebecca Sampson, the mountain’s general manager and president, delivered remarks and shared an original poem reflecting on the ski area’s history and community ties.
State Sen. James Skoufis, Assemblyman Karl Brabenec, and Warwick Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer also spoke. Dwyer declared Jan. 31 “Mount Peter Day” in the Town of Warwick.
Founded in 1936, Mount Peter is known for its family-friendly atmosphere and free beginner ski and snowboard lessons on weekends and holidays. The 90th anniversary celebration is part of a season-long recognition of the mountain’s legacy and future.
Mount Peter remains open for the season, with information on conditions, lessons, and operating hours available at mtpeter.com.
