Staatsburgh State Historic Site (75 Mills Mansion Drive 1 Road, Staatsburg, NY 12580) will host a family-friendly craft program inviting children to step into the winter past with Victorian Skating Party Dioramas, inspired by Gilded Age life along the Hudson River on January 31, 2026.
The 60-minute workshop centers on Ruth Livingston Mills, a prominent figure of Gilded Age high society who lived at Staatsburgh and was also an avid ice skater. During the program, children will create dioramas imagining a Victorian-era skating party like those once enjoyed by the Mills family, their friends and household staff on the frozen Hudson near the mansion.
All craft materials will be provided, along with hot chocolate for participants. Following the workshop, families may take part in an optional guided walk to Mills Cove, where residents of Staatsburgh historically gathered for skating parties.
The program is designed for children ages 6 and up and requires adult accompaniment. Tickets are $5 per child, plus an Eventbrite processing fee, and are available at https://FOMAS.eventbrite.com.
Staatsburgh State Historic Site is located in the hamlet of Staatsburg, between Hyde Park and Rhinebeck. The 79-room mansion overlooking the Hudson River is preserved as a time capsule of the Gilded Age, retaining its original furnishings and ornate décor.
In addition to special programs, the site offers guided mansion tours by reservation, with advance booking available at www.Bookeo.com/StaatsburghSHS. Visitors may also explore the surrounding Ogden Mills & Ruth Livingston Mills Memorial State Park, which features scenic river views, picnic areas and woodland trails.
